The British cellist, Hannah-Rae Hampson, has built a varied musical career since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, London in 2012. After further studies in France and Norway, she now lives in Copenhagen Denmark, where she works as a freelance cellist and educator.
Hannah’s career has spanned a wide spectrum of musical activities which have taken her across Europe, performing in both formal and unconventional venues – from Stockholm’s Konserthus and London’s Royal Albert Hall to underground World War II tunnels and Danish forests. She has played with ensembles such as the London Arts Orchestra, Danish Chamber Players, and Damkapellet, as well as festivals including Endellion, Klang, Nordic Music Days, and the Copenhagen Opera Festival.
A keen chamber musician, she performs throughout Denmark with her clarinet trio, Trio Lido, and runs informal Chamber Jam evenings for the classical community Kammerklubben. In recent years, Hannah’s artistic path has led her to explore improvisation, composition, and live electronics. She released the dark-experimental live album Bat Soup as part of the duo Eocæn with underground electronic artist Lars Kivig in 2021, and is currently developing a number of solo projects.
Hannah is also a dedicated teacher with a wealth of experience. She worked as a teaching assistant to her former professor, Jakob Kullberg, at the Royal College of Music in London for four years and went on to receive her Master’s of Education with distinction in 2021, researching embodied learning in the conservatoire.
In her spare time, Hannah practices martial arts and holds the rank of shodan in Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu.
